James Benitez, was born in Athens, Greece's Capital. At the early age of six, James found himself in a love affair with music. Collecting tapes ranging from Disco funk to Brazilian rhythms; James sure got his hands on anything he could find.
At the age of fourteen, James’ life changed when he discovered discotheque Atomic which in the late 70s was probably the most respected place in Athens playing
Disco, Funk & original Rap forms. It took him no longer than 2 weeks to find himself behind the decks at Atomic & started establishing his name amongst other DJ’s. According to James Benitez, Atomic was the finest
cyclopedia of Black Music & soon after that, his hunger for music knowledge led him to Jazz Music which to this date is still a timeless piece of his heart.
At sixteen James started his classical piano studies and a year later bought his first synthesizer & drum machine, which are now the classic Yamaha DX7, and the Roland TR-909. Right after high school James started his Sound Engineering studies and continued DJing In several clubs in Athens along with broadcasting a daily show on a Radio Station where he found himself in a Director position in just a few months.
In 1995 James locked a residency at Club Plaza in Chania,Crete (A beautiful Greek Island) where he opened and shared the decks with international superstars such as John Digweed and Paul Oakenfold.
In 1996 James got his first overseas booking. He played in Germany and got so inspired that when he came back to Greece, he quickly enrolled himself and started Music Technology studies.
In 2002 James got his first record deal. He signed "Star Chaser" to Release Records in Toronto/Canada & found great support from the likes of Hernan Catteneo, Andy Jarrod, Mark Oliver, Martin Villenueve (MV) & Paranoid Jack to name a few.
In 2003, “Big Al” A&R for Ready Mix Records (Montreal) and resident DJ at Club Stereo listened to James’ Demo and was so thrilled with the music and dance floor reaction he had
received, he quickly contacted James and signed a single deal on the spot.
Soon after that, James’ track “Miss Thing” got licensed through Ready Mix to be featured on the new Filterheadz “Tribadelicious” and DJ Vibe’s “Underground Sound of Lisbon” mixed compilations due out on News Records and Star69 Records in the summer of 2003/2004.
James is currently working hard in the Studio developing a full-length album.
One thing is for sure, keep an open eye & ear cause’ the best is yet to come…
