Born
in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Eelke’s story starts at the age
of 17 when he got his first job working at a music store. He
spent the next 4 years there, and over that time he built
valuable production experience by spending his spare time
learning how to use the stores production equipment. Over this
duration the quality of his productions were slowly coming
together, allowing him to compile and prepare his first release.
In
2003 his first EP was ready, which was then signed and released
by the new Segment Records imprint. Although the EP was a
limited pressing of only 250 copies it still made it's way into
the boxes of several major DJs including John Digweed and Seb
Fontaine. Overall reactions were great, and to this day '4.5
Billion Years' is still a much sought after record.
In
2005, his ‘Deeper Depths EP’, also on Segment Records, got big
support with Steve Gerrard including it on his WMC promotional
mix. In addition it was also licensed to Andrew K's compilation
'Flavours.' Later that year his ‘Consequences EP’ on Noctambula
Records also received good support from many including Sasha and
Hernan Cattaneo, who also charted the release. Towards the end
of 2005 Eelke forged a variety of new production partnerships by
teaming up in the studio with fellow Dutchman C-Jay and with old
friend Nick Hogendoorn. These partnerships resulted in an influx
of quality releases on labels like Tilth Music, Spinifex,
Plastik Park and Cyber Records. On top of that some of his time
was also spent in the UK working on productions with Stewart
Keenan of Navigation Records.
In
early 2006 Eelke joined forces with Fady Ferraye (Red Circle
Music) in Lebanon, launching their ‘Free Jerk Inlay’ project.
Besides working on productions together they are also focused
delivering DJ sets under their ‘Free Jerk Inlay’ moniker,
allowing them to step outside the confines of a single person DJ
set and connect with the dance floor on another level. So what
else for Eelke? Well, he's also been involved in a variety of
other projects such as his production work with Rutger van
Bostelen as as 'M.I.D.O.R.' Their productions have received good
support from several major DJs such as Tiësto, Ferry Corsten and
Marco V. Unfortunately however, in early 2006 Eelke made the
difficult decision to discontinue work with the project and
decided to focus more on and own sound, and left.
Besides
his work as a producer, Eelke is also credited as being an
excellent DJ! His sets these days are as diverse as his
productions, blending progressive, tech, electro and minimal
house into a very distinct and atmospheric sound. Holding down a
residency at Purple Snow events in Belgium, Eelke’s sound can be
heard beyond the borders of Holland ever more frequently.
Upcoming and recent appearances include countries such as
Greece, Serbia, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Russia, Romania,
Lebanon and Jordan. Eelke has also enjoyed support from many of
the internet radio stations including FriskyRadio, Proton Radio
and Di.fm. |
