Jaime Romero work as a DJ since the early 90s, first being influenced by Detroit techno, techno-makina, EBM and new beat. He has been one of the promoters of the new valencian scene since the 90s by means of Move and Skyzoo organizations, epitomes of the avantgarde dance music in the city. David is a composer and pianist with academic training and jazz studies who since his 14 years old he has written lots of original works, arrangements and experimental works for chamber music groups or piano solo inspired in his own vision of the electronic music of the 90s.
David and Jaime met each other in the Electroacoustics class in the College and from the very beginning they realize the potential of researching, creating and producing together. Lontano was born. Since then they have released for Factor City -Undo and Vicknoise label based in Barcelona- 3 EPs (“Gaymania”, “Lovebass” and “Low Scapes”) and one album, “Chroma”, four releases succeeding both critics and public and sold out few weeks after the date of release.
In their studio they set off with ideas from techno, electro, funk, disco, Middle Age music, impressionism, IDM, jazz, minimalism, deep, progressive, electroacoustics, clicks’n’cuts, or the electronic house, amongst other styles. Almost everything can be useful as a source of inspiration at the time of creation. Their track “Lovebass” has been one of their tracks more praised by the international reviews, and Ewan Pearson included it into the “Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi_01” first compilation for Soma Records. Furthermore, they have remixed to Kourosh & Ric-M for Ready
Mix Records and to Loudeast for Odori.
They also have released under the alias of Miniservice in Alpha, a label based in Cologne, Germany, and as Aerobic Studio along with Dioni Sánchez (Le Club) in their own label in Valencia.
In the venues and events where they have played, they have share the stage with Common Factor, Alexander Kowalsky, Towa Tei, Organic Audio, Lali Puna, Saint Etienne, Mikael Stavöstrand, and a long et cetera. Their are responsible of memorable live concerts like the ones in Sonar 2005 (Barcelona), Observatori 2003 (Valencia), and Klubber’s Day 2006 (Madrid), amongst a lot of other music festivals, and also the ones at clubs like The Room, Coppelia, Deep and Goa/Fabrik, in Madrid, the ones in La Paloma, Moog, Liquid and The Loft, in Barcelona, or the one they did at Die Registratur, in Munich, Germany, to name but a few.
In November 2005, and after several weeks climbing positions in the Chart of the most important videoclips of the season, “Láser” by Lontano, produced by Lab4, manage to get No. 1 in the Top 20 Dance Videos of the Spanish MTV, over Madonna’s “Hung Up”.
Soon after, SHOWstudio, London company of interactive projects, along with Play Station, chose six artists each one representing a different artistic field and all them having “a great impact in the artistic scene in Spain”, for the presentation in Barcelona of the PSP Amaze Me Project. This was an interactive exhibition that took place in 6 European cities each one with 6 artistic panelists from that country. For instance, the panelists for music in Belgium were 2 Many DJs, it was Geoff Travis in the UK, and Luca Agnelli in Italy.
During 2006 they launch 3 releases in Aerobic Studio and the first of Kontakte, this one with a remix by DJ/rupture, a praised release that was Top Single Recommendation in the Warp website and that reached its peak being elected 4th best national single of the year by the prestigious magazine Rockdelux.
In the beginning of 2007 the “Low Scapes” EP has excellent write-ups from renowned artists like Tiga, Funk D’Void, Kiki Silversurfer and Ángel Molina, amongst others, and also in magazines like The Wire, Raveline or 365mag.
